
Herman Melville
Herman Melville (1819–1891) was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet, best known for his novel “Moby-Dick.” Although not widely acclaimed during his lifetime, Melville’s work gained recognition posthumously and he is now considered one of the great American writers. “Moby-Dick,” with its complex themes of obsession, revenge, and the struggle against the unfathomable forces of nature, is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature. Melville’s other notable works include “Typee,” “Bartleby, the Scrivener,” and “Billy Budd.”
